Unpacking the Real

Following on from the podcast ‘Real is not Enough’ — a podcast series focused on Günther Anders, a German-Jewish philosopher living in exile in the US during World War II – produced by Chris Müller, Benjamin Nickl, and Helen Wolfenden, this year the team have brought a new podcast to light, ‘Unpacking the Real‘ which looks further into the universe of fakes, fake worlds and related concepts in contemporary society and its institutions.

The launch event will be held at the University of Sydney (Professorial Board Rome, Main Quad) on the 3rd of May, 2022, at 2.00-4.00pm.

Observing the Scribe at Work

This blog has been created in order to document the activities of the Australian Research Council funded project based in the Department of Ancient History at Macquarie University, Sydney: ‘Knowledge Transfer and Administrative Professionalism in a Pre-Typographic Society: Observing the Scribe at Work in Roman and Early Islamic Egypt’.

Our About page presents the key aims and objectives of the project; Team introduces the primary members of the project; and Papers gives up-to-date information concerning conference papers and published works by the team that directly relate to the project. In addition, we have our ‘Conference 2013’ page, which at present provides the Call for Papers for the event, which will take place at Macquarie University, 27-28 September 2013. We will be using this blog to provide updates, about the program, list of participants, and abstracts, in due course.

As our first post concerning the conference, we are pleased to announce that the following scholars have agreed to participate in it: Rodney Ast, a specialist in Greek papyrology, and Research and Teaching Associate at Heidelberg University; Jacob Lauinger, Assistant Professor in Assyriology at Johns Hopkins University; and Lucian Reinfandt, from the Department of Oriental Studies at the University of Vienna. Lucian will be joining our team in late September and early October as a 2013 Macquarie University Faculty of Arts Visiting Fellow.
